State Street

The goal for this project was to build a large new family room and southern-style porch overlooking a new swimming pool. To accomplish this, we tore the old sunroom off the back of the home and built a new two-story addition. The owners love how the house now feels open & spacious and yet the living room is a distinctly defined room. We created large cased openings that lead from the fully renovated kitchen and breakfast room out to the living room. At the back wall of the house, three pairs of French doors have Juliet railings so the living room can be opened to the pool and the sound of the water fountains can be heard inside. The result is a soothing, light-filled space.
At the breakfast room, we added a middle window between two existing windows to create this gorgeous triple window which brings lots of light into the breakfast room and kitchen. The owners now have a pantry and a bar for entertaining. We widened the old cased opening between the kitchen and dining room so the space flows perfectly.
At the second floor, the home now has a large primary suite with a bathroom soaking tub overlooking the swimming pool. To add New Orleans charm, we incorporated the owner’s antique cabinet in the bathroom which adds a layer of warmth to the feel of the space (and serves as towel storage). At the primary bedroom, we carved paneled niches out of the wall behind the nightstands for the owner’s love of books.
This home is now functional and flows beautifully. The spaces are light-filled and serene.
