Historic Renovation

Like many historic homes, this house had a tiny bathroom that was a little too close for comfort for this husband and wife. So, we took space from an adjacent room and created a dreamy bathroom. One of the things I love about New Orleans is the no-fear-factor for using color! Working with House of Hazard Interiors, we selected a pale amber colored calacatta marble and a soothing blush color for the walls. We designed the shower to be like a hidden enclave with a little arch top opening. For the vanity, we designed a custom piece that has a deep stone turn down countertop, inset drawers, hanging tassel pulls, and custom ‘feet’. The pill-shaped sconces are made with alabaster stone so they ‘glow’. Our client is an art collector and she hung a local artist’s painting above the soaking tub (a painting by Amanda Talley).
In the kitchen, the owner knew she wanted a classic black French range. House of Hazard had an idea to do this bold blue encasing the refrigerator and coffee pantry. When you open the big blue door to the coffee bar pantry, there is a stone countertop hidden within that holds all of your morning coffee needs! Hand-made in the USA Tabarka tiles were used for the backsplash. They tie together the blue from the refrigerator and the black from the French range. Unlaquered brass fittings and pulls accent the space beautifully. Notice how the historic fireplace is incorporated into the kitchen plan seamlessly! This is true “Living in History”!
